Isaiah 58:6-7 ESV

Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry and bring the homeless poor into your house when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

When it comes to fasting, we seem to get the basic universal meaning of what it entails: refraining from food for the sake of getting closer to God. Nevertheless, we as Christians should have a more in depth understanding of the power of fasting and how our actions/prayers have a much greater impact during this time. Often times in the scriptures, fasting is associated with prayer as two powerful weapons in the kingdom of God when combined, so we should see it as such. Jesus shared that some demons could only come out by the union of prayer and fasting (Matthew 17). This is why our mentality should be “this is the time of power”.

I encourage you brothers and sisters to challenge yourselves in your faith, prayers, and actions. THIS is the time for us to be bold in all things we do because the Lord’s desire is that the bonds be loosened, the oppressed be set free, the sick be healed, the hungry be fed, the lost be saved, and many more glorious things! All of which would come through the hands of God’s people who earnestly seek his face and his power. Strive to pray big prayers so we could all see how BIG our God is. Far more than pushing away a meal, let’s pray that the fears, bondages, and chains be pushed away as well! Lastly, do not neglect the power and necessity of serving, helping, and thinking of others, which the Lord desires we do much more when we fast (verse 7^).

Prayer: Father, change our minds and allow us to see the bigger picture, which is to see your kingdom come and your will be done. Give us faith to pray prayers that would change our lives and the lives of those around us. We ask that you would open doors for us to help others and shine your light in a mighty way, and we pray the effects of the fast would be revealed during the revival, and even beyond. In the MIGHTY MATCHLESS AND HOLY NAME OF JESUS. Amen!
